Rutgers Connect (Microsoft Office 365)
As previously announced, we will be moving to Office 365 between 10/26 and 10/28. These dates are subject to change, but these are the dates we have scheduled as of today. Here are some additional details about the upcoming email system changes:
Email account freeze period
Your email account will be under a freeze period for approximately 8 days before the migration. This means that you will not want to make any large scale changes to your email account such as moving lots of things around and creating or removing folders during this time. The reason for this is that in advance of the actual change over date, there will be work done behind the scenes to get your account ready on the new system. We will remind you of this, but if you are planning on going through your email account and cleaning things up, or making big changes, please do so before the freeze period, which is now scheduled to start on 10/18.
How will the migration work?
You will be notified by us in advance as to what day you will be moving. We will also provide instructions and information as to how to configure your mobile devices for the new email system and information on using the web interface for Office 365, which is referred to as OWA. On the day your account is migrated, you will start using your new email account. You will continue to have access to your old email account, but it should only be used as an archive and will only be available on a temporary basis. The main reason it will still be accessible is so that you can ensure that all of your emails and folders were moved over. Your old email account will be accessible for at least two weeks depending on the system being used, but it should not be used to send any messages, as those sent messages will never be moved over to the new system. For individuals with local mail that has to be moved, we will schedule appointments and help you move that mail after the migration period.
What can I do to prepare now?
You can clean up your email accounts if there are things you don’t want moved (Folders or large batches of email). You can also prepare by utilizing the training materials that are available.
