DESCRIPTION:The Bloustein School Community and Belonging Lecture \nIn the face of a collapsing public health infrastructure and deliberate attacks on government institutions and human and civil rights\, community health and our collective well-being are at risk. As the pendulum swings widely\, the fair solution is to build lasting safe spaces for equity and inclusion\, where health equity and social justice can be achieved. While various populations are pushed off the “Cliff of Good Health\,” the power of data stories\, coalition building\, storytelling for change\, and strong policy advocacy ensures the will of the people remains heard. \nDr. Chris T. Pernell is a dynamic physician leader and social change agent. In her practice\, she focuses on health justice\, community-based advocacy\, and population-wide health promotion and disease prevention. A celebrated visionary and apostle of public health\, Dr. Chris serves as the Director of the NAACP Center for Health Equity. The Center is charged with driving equitable health outcomes and transforming healthcare systems while valuing the whole person. Prior to joining the nation’s oldest and most venerable civil rights organization\, she launched The Esther Group\, a public health consulting and health equity strategy firm. DESCRIPTION:The Bloustein School will present the 18th Annual Krueckeberg Doctoral Conference in Urban Studies\, Urban Planning\, and Public Policy on Friday\, March 13\, 2026. The conference is organized by doctoral students for doctoral students engaged in urban planning\, urban studies\, health\, and policy-related research across disciplines and universities in the tri-state NJ-NY-PA metropolitan region. Named after Professor Donald A. Krueckeberg\, the conference commemorates Don Krueckeberg’s long-running commitment to doctoral education by providing a one-day forum highlighting doctoral student research at the cutting edge of urban studies\, planning\, and public policy. \nDoctoral students at any stage of dissertation research are invited and encouraged to present their work at the conference. First-year doctoral students are invited to participate to try out a topic\, and advanced candidates may present sections of research or a finished dissertation\, or anywhere in between. DESCRIPTION:The New Jersey Statewide Data System (NJSDS) is the State of New Jersey’s centralized longitudinal data system for public administrative data. DESCRIPTION:On December 17\, 2025\, the New Jersey State Planning Commission adopted the first new State Development and Redevelopment Plan in nearly 25 years. Developed through collaboration across all levels of government\, the plan provides a framework to guide growth\, land use\, and development across New Jersey. \nThe plan is supported by two companion documents: an Impact Assessment\, produced by Rowan University and Rutgers University\, and an Infrastructure Needs Assessment\, by Rutgers’ Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center. The fund was established in 1988 after Ruth Ellen died following a long and heroic battle with illness. Sadly\, there was cause to broaden the purpose of the fund a year later when Edward Bloustein\, Rutgers’ beloved president\, died suddenly in December of 1989. \nThe endowment supports an annual lecture series\, that may include one to three lectures per academic year\, that is intended to celebrate the values and interests Ruth Ellen and Ed cherished and cultivated throughout their lives.

Developed in dialogue with former residents\, it is the culmination of two linked courses offered in spring 2026 at the Mason Gross School of the Arts and the Edward J. DESCRIPTION:Dan Dominguez\, PP\, AICP\, MCRP ’14\, is the Director of Policy and Development for the City of New Brunswick\, NJ. He is originally from Newark\, NJ\, where he spent the first 32 years of his life before moving to New Brunswick. Dan’s parents came to the United States from Spain in the 1970s. Dan obtained his BA in Political Science from Rutgers Newark in 2010 and his MCRP from the Rutgers Bloustein School in 2014. DESCRIPTION:The annual Rutgers Robotics Workshop series was initiated as part of the SOCRATES NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Program and is now co-organized with the Rutgers AI and Data Science Collaboratory and Rutgers DIMACS. \nThe goal of the 2026 Rutgers Robotics Workshop is to bring together faculty\, researchers\, and students working in robotics from across the university to identify synergies\, brainstorm new collaborations\, and build teams for upcoming proposal submissions. We will also discuss ways to strengthen the Robotics@Rutgers identity and increase the visibility and coordination of robotics research across Rutgers. \nFaculty working in robotics are encouraged to sign up to give a 10-minute research talk. These talks should provide a brief overview of your research area\, with particular emphasis on opportunities for collaboration with other Rutgers researchers. SUMMARY:Community and Belonging Lecture | Built to Belong: From Advocacy to Action  in Launching New Jersey’s  Public Health Institute
DESCRIPTION:The Bloustein School Annual Community and Belonging Lecture is presented by Dr. Denise Anderson\, an accomplished public health executive with experience in hospitals\, government\, nonprofit organizations\, and academia. She is the Inaugural Executive Director of The Center for Health Equity & Wellbeing\, New Jersey’s newly designated Public Health Institute. She serves on the boards of the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (AACCNJ) and is President-Elect of the New Jersey Public Health Association (NJPHA). She holds a BS in Human Ecology\, an MPH from Rutgers\, and a Ph.D. in Urban Systems from Rutgers and NJIT.  Further\, Dr. Anderson is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Public Health Prevention Service Fellow\, an Eagleton Institute of Politics Fellow\, and a Yale Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Health Equity Leadership. \nRegistration is requested by visiting go.rutgers.edu/anderson26. \nPublic institutions do more than administer programs and distribute resources; they communicate whose experiences matter\, whose voices influence decisions\, and who belongs within the systems designed to protect our collective well-being. Building equitable public health infrastructure therefore requires more than creating a new organization. It requires challenging entrenched systems\, cultivating trust\, sharing power\, and translating community priorities into sustainable policy and action. \nDrawing from her experience launching the Center for Health Equity & Wellbeing—New Jersey’s Public Health Institute (CHEW-NJPHI)—Dr. Denise Anderson will offer a candid examination of what it takes to build a statewide institution from the ground up. The discussion will trace CHEW-NJPHI’s journey from advocating for authorizing legislation to establishing an administrative and incubation partnership with Acenda Integrated Health\, developing a community-centered strategic plan\, and assuming a significant role in New Jersey’s Rural Health Transformation initiative. \nIn this case study\, Dr. Anderson will explore the tensions and opportunities of turning vision into infrastructure: building legitimacy while building capacity\, balancing urgency with sustainability\, and navigating relationships among government\, communities\, funders\, and institutional partners. The lecture invites participants to consider how public health institutions can be intentionally designed to advance belonging\, strengthen community power\, and embed equity not only in their programs but also in their structures\, partnerships\, investments\, and measures of success.
