SUMMARY:New Jersey’s New State Plan: What It Means for the Future
DESCRIPTION:On December 17\, 2025\, the New Jersey State Planning Commission adopted the first new State Development and Redevelopment Plan in nearly 25 years. Developed through collaboration across all levels of government\, the plan provides a framework to guide growth\, land use\, and development across New Jersey. \nThe plan is supported by two companion documents: an Impact Assessment\, produced by Rowan University and Rutgers University\, and an Infrastructure Needs Assessment\, by Rutgers’ Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center. Join us for a discussion of the plan and two companion studies examining the impact of state planning and the infrastructure needed to support New Jersey’s future growth. \nPanelists: \n\nWalter C. Bloustein Memorial Lecture was established to honor the memory of these two extraordinary individuals. For nearly nineteen years\, the Blousteins dedicated their enormous energies to Rutgers\, The State University of New Jersey. The fund was established in 1988 after Ruth Ellen died following a long and heroic battle with illness. Sadly\, there was cause to broaden the purpose of the fund a year later when Edward Bloustein\, Rutgers’ beloved president\, died suddenly in December of 1989. \nThe endowment supports an annual lecture series\, that may include one to three lectures per academic year\, that is intended to celebrate the values and interests Ruth Ellen and Ed cherished and cultivated throughout their lives.

DESCRIPTION:PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. \nA new date will be announced in the future. \n  \nLeora Horwitz\, MD is a professor in the Departments of Population Health and Medicine at NYU Langone and the founding director of the Center for Healthcare Innovation and Delivery Science and the Division of Healthcare Delivery Science in the Department of Population Health\, and a practicing hospitalist. Her initial work focused primarily on improving the safety and quality of transitions in care of all kinds\, and she now works more generally on healthcare redesign and learning health system transformation through the Center for Healthcare Innovation and Delivery Science and its Rapid Randomized Controlled Trial Laboratory. She also conducts federally-funded research on value in health care; has developed quality measures for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; and co-direct the NYU Population Health Science Scholars Program. \nRutgers Health Management Perspectives Distinguished Lecture Series is presented by the Health Administration program.

DESCRIPTION:Dan Dominguez\, PP\, AICP\, MCRP ’14\, is the Director of Policy and Development for the City of New Brunswick\, NJ. He is originally from Newark\, NJ\, where he spent the first 32 years of his life before moving to New Brunswick. Dan’s parents came to the United States from Spain in the 1970s. Dan obtained his BA in Political Science from Rutgers Newark in 2010 and his MCRP from the Rutgers Bloustein School in 2014. He has been Director of Policy and Development (formerly Planning\, Community and Economic Development) since 2019. As a Bloustein alum\, Dan is excited to return to the Bloustein School and provide students with firsthand insight into development planning in New Brunswick. \nIn this lecture\, Dan will discuss what it’s like to accidentally land your dream job\, COVID-19’s impact on urban development\, and other development highlights in New Brunswick over the past seven years. SUMMARY:Community and Belonging Lecture | Built to Belong: From Advocacy to Action  in Launching New Jersey’s  Public Health Institute
DESCRIPTION:The Bloustein School Annual Community and Belonging Lecture is presented by Dr. Denise Anderson\, an accomplished public health executive with experience in hospitals\, government\, nonprofit organizations\, and academia. She is the Inaugural Executive Director of The Center for Health Equity & Wellbeing\, New Jersey’s newly designated Public Health Institute. She serves on the boards of the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (AACCNJ) and is President-Elect of the New Jersey Public Health Association (NJPHA). She holds a BS in Human Ecology\, an MPH from Rutgers\, and a Ph.D. in Urban Systems from Rutgers and NJIT.  Further\, Dr. Anderson is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Public Health Prevention Service Fellow\, an Eagleton Institute of Politics Fellow\, and a Yale Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Health Equity Leadership. \nRegistration is requested by visiting go.rutgers.edu/anderson26. \nPublic institutions do more than administer programs and distribute resources; they communicate whose experiences matter\, whose voices influence decisions\, and who belongs within the systems designed to protect our collective well-being. Building equitable public health infrastructure therefore requires more than creating a new organization. It requires challenging entrenched systems\, cultivating trust\, sharing power\, and translating community priorities into sustainable policy and action. \nDrawing from her experience launching the Center for Health Equity & Wellbeing—New Jersey’s Public Health Institute (CHEW-NJPHI)—Dr. Denise Anderson will offer a candid examination of what it takes to build a statewide institution from the ground up. The discussion will trace CHEW-NJPHI’s journey from advocating for authorizing legislation to establishing an administrative and incubation partnership with Acenda Integrated Health\, developing a community-centered strategic plan\, and assuming a significant role in New Jersey’s Rural Health Transformation initiative. \nIn this case study\, Dr. Anderson will explore the tensions and opportunities of turning vision into infrastructure: building legitimacy while building capacity\, balancing urgency with sustainability\, and navigating relationships among government\, communities\, funders\, and institutional partners. The lecture invites participants to consider how public health institutions can be intentionally designed to advance belonging\, strengthen community power\, and embed equity not only in their programs but also in their structures\, partnerships\, investments\, and measures of success.
