A resume is a living document which communicates your qualifications and your brand—who you are and what makes you unique compared to the competition—to employers and recruiters. A well-crafted resume serves as a marketing tool to make a favorable impression on potential employers. It also helps employers assess a candidate’s suitability for a role and make informed hiring decisions. It also ensures that you are found in Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). \nBe prepared for your internship and/or job applications and join us on September 16th to learn the latest about resumes and get direct feedback on your resume from an industry professional/alumnus. This is an amazing opportunity to get feedback from and network with a professional/alumni in the field. SUMMARY:Rutgers Democracy Lab's Summer Research Symposium
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend Rutgers Democracy Lab‘s Democracy Summer Research Symposium\, featuring poster presentations from Rutgers doctoral students\, a faculty panel on civically-engaged research\, and workshops for PhD students. \nLina Moe is a PhD Candidate in Urban Planning and Public Policy at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers–New Brunswick. Her research focuses on the governance of emerging technologies and infrastructure siting\, with particular attention to how communities exercise democratic power over large-scale energy and data center development. She has produced policy analysis for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities on community benefits frameworks and has studied the spatial distribution of data centers relative to overburdened communities as part of her research at the Center for Urban Policy Research. Her work has been published in Energy Policy and Environmental Research: Energy. \nWho Decides Where AI Lives? Community Power and the Democratic Politics of Data Center Siting in New Jersey\nAI is a white-hot topic of growing confusion\, concern\, and resistance. The large data centers undergirding generative AI are among the fastest-growing categories of infrastructure being sited in American communities. Like much large-scale infrastructure\, they concentrate costs locally while benefits flow to distant shareholders and global users. AI may live in the cloud\, but AI infrastructure consumes land\, electricity\, and water\, produces noise and raises utility prices. I will be studying a hyperscale facility in Vineland\, NJ designed to reach 300 MW\, which is nearly double the entire municipality’s total electricity consumption. This project focuses on AI’s physical footprint. I will investigate: how does the proliferation of the physical infrastructure of AI affect democratic governance in the communities where AI physically lives? \n​Agenda Summary\n​1:00 PM -2:00 PM: Poster Presentations — 25 doctoral projects funded by the RDL\, focused on deliberative dialogue\, AI and democracy\, democratic innovation\, or other democracy-related topics. More information about projects here. \n​2:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Faculty Panel on Civically-Engaged Research — featuring perspectives from faculty and community partners conducting research in social sciences\, STEM\, health\, and communication. \n​3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: PhD Student Workshops on Civically-Engaged Research — open to all Rutgers PhD students interested in conducting civically-engaged research. Workshops in breakout groups will focus on ethics\, funding\, partnerships\, hiring\, and more.
