Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, the federal historic tax credit cost the U.S. Treasury $25.2 billion and generated $29.8 billion in taxes since the program’s inception in 1978. The report says that in 2016, the program created 109,000 jobs and generated a combined $1.7 billion in taxes from the local, state and federal levels.
