Panel relates how old malls are becoming mini urban areas

For the first time in the post-Great Recession period, suburban growth in New Jersey surpassed that of the regional core. But after six years of a dramatic shift toward urbanization and New Jersey’s downtowns, was 2017 just a blip or is suburban growth here to stay?

This and other findings of “The ‘Burbs’ Bounce Back,” a Rutgers Regional Report, were presented and discussed at a panel session Thursday at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, one of six panelists, said he has seen that shift in his community.
