March 13, 2021

The National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine recently released a report, The Impact of COVID-19 on the Careers of Women in Academic Science, Engineering, and Medicine.

Bloustein School Professor and Heldrich Center Senior Faculty Fellow Hal Salzman contributed to this study and the final report with a co-authored commissioned paper “The Impact of COVID-19 on Tenure Clocks, the Evaluation of Productivity, and Academic STEMM Career Trajectories.” The report was co-authored with Felicia A. Jefferson, Matthew T. Hora,
and Sabrina L. Pickens.

The report explores how the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the careers of women in academic STEMM during 2020 and considers how these disruptions—both positive and negative—might shape future progress for women in academic STEMM.
