How a Holmdel July 26 special election could bring changes to local elections, government

May 17, 2022

Voters will decide this summer if the township should change its form of government and how often it should hold local elections.

According to a March presentation to the commission by Julia Sass Rubin, professor at the Bloustein School of Planning and Policy at Rutgers University, “Primary ballots are organized along the county line or as people refer to it as the party line, which, of course, consists of all the party-endorsed candidates.”

She said candidates who are endorsed by the county organization  receive prime ballot position on the same party line as other candidates who are more well-known.

“And so, everyone else on the line gains legitimacy from the fact that they are associated with being on the line with this known candidate,” she said.
