The war we don’t need between New Jersey and New York | Opinion

New Jersey has acted to withdraw from the powerful bi-state Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor, which polices one of the world’s largest natural harbors and the busiest on the East Coast. But New York objects to any unilateral move by New Jersey to terminate the compact.

The dustup between the two states arrived at the United States Supreme Court in March when New York petitioned to block New Jersey’s move. As the arbiter for cases of original jurisdiction, the high court granted New York’s request for an injunction that bars New Jersey from pulling out of the commission or cutting off its funding while the justices consider the matter.
