During New Jersey’s economic recovery from 2009 to 2013, the state’s poverty rate increased from 9.4 to 11.4 percent. Over this same time period, the nation’s poverty rate fell. Most disturbing was the increase in the state’s childhood poverty rate from 13.3 to 16.5 percent.
