LBI building boom: Why houses got so big and construction is king

APP.com reports on LBI’s building boom, quoting Marc Pfeiffer, noting a 2024 Rutgers study found that the beach on the island’s southern tip saw a net loss of about 27,500 cubic meters of sediment from October 2020 through May 2021 and that beach nourishment costs an estimated $10 million per mile per project, according to a 2025 report from the New Jersey Climate Change Resource Center at Rutgers University.
