NOTE: The Kirkpatrick Street entrance (back door) is electronic card key access ONLY. The building’s front desk attendant does not have the ability to remotely open the door. All guests must enter via the front door on Livingston Avenue.

New Brunswick, New Jersey is one of the state’s most significant areas for education and health care. The city is home to Rutgers’ largest regional campus, including its historic Old Queen’s campus; Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Saint Peter’s University Hospital, and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Bloustein School is located in a thriving cultural area, with The State Theater and The New Brunswick Cultural Center (opening Fall 2019), the soon-to-be new home forCrossroads Theatre andGeorge Street Playhouse, just steps away. Downtown New Brunswick offers something for every taste through a spicy menu of restaurants and entertainment venues.
The Bloustein School’s home, Civic Square, is within a five-minute walk of the city’s train station. The New Brunswick train station, which has NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak connections, is approximately one hour from New York City and Philadelphia. To reach the Bloustein School from the train station, cross Albany Street (Route 27) and turn left. Walk a block and a half to George Street. Turn right onto George Street and walk four blocks to Livingston Avenue. Turn right onto Livingston Avenue; the Bloustein School is at the corner of Livingston Avenue and New Street.
Parking in New Brunswick
The Bloustein School is located in downtown New Brunswick. Parking for guests is available throughout the city, by either parking curbside, metered, or in a municipal parking garage.
The Civic Square Deck (GPS address 3 Kirkpatrick Street), situated underneath the Bloustein School’s Civic Square Building, is not open to the public on weekdays during the hours of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Permits and access cards are required for entrance during these times. The Civic Square Deck is owned and operated by the New Brunswick Parking Authority. Two municipal parking lots are approximately a one block walk to the Bloustein School’s Civic Square Building:
- The Morris Street Deck is located at the corner of New and George Streets (GPS address 70 New Street, New Brunswick, NJ)
- The New Street Deck is located on the corner of New Street and Joyce Kilmer Avenue (GPS address 134 New Street, New Brunswick, NJ).
Both parking decks are hourly rated and operate 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. For a map of municipal parking lots, information about other lots, lot capacity, clearances and rates please visit the New Brunswick Parking Authority website.
After 5:00 p.m. and on weekends, there are two ways to pay for parking in the Civic Square lot. There is a $10 flat rate, CASH ONLY parking fee if you choose to pay at the pay station. The pay station is exact change only and no coins or credit cards are accepted. Or, New Brunswick now offers a pre-pay/reserve parking option via Parkme.com, which allows you to pay by credit card and reserve a spot in advance. Please note that reserve parking is $12 plus tax; also, that there is NOT a valet in the lot; it is self-parking only.
There is also a municipal parking lot behind the building which can be accessed via Bayard Street. This lot also has paid parking after business hours. However, you must walk to the front of the Civic Square Building on Livingston Avenue to gain entrance; access via the back door is by electronic card key access only. The building’s front desk attendant does not have the ability to remotely open the doors.
NEW BRUNSWICK/LIVINGSTON AVENUE/NEW STREET CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Construction of the New Brunswick Cultural Center on Livingston Avenue began in July 2017 and work is slated to continue through September 2019. Read more about the project here.
As of January 2018, there is minimal access to Livingston Avenue from New Street to George Street. On-street metered parking on the Heldrich Hotel side of the street is available. Minimal handicapped parking is available in front of the State Theatre New Jersey. There is NO on-street parking at non-metered spots; cars that park in non-metered spots may be ticketed and towed.
Construction of a new student apartment/housing complex began on New Street between George Street and Livingston Avenue in May 2018 and is expected to continue through the fall of 2020. Sidewalk and road closures are expected to occur at regular intervals. On-street parking is not permitted in the construction area. Read more about the project here.

From the New Jersey Turnpike (north or south): Take Exit 9 to Route 18 North. Take the New Street exit. Stay straight through lights at Neilson Street and George Street. The Bloustein School is on your right at the intersection of New Street and Livingston Avenue.
From Garden State Parkway South: Take Exit 129 to the New Jersey Turnpike South. Take Exit 9 for Route 18 North and follow the Turnpike directions above.
From Garden State Parkway North: Take Exit 105 to Route 18 North and follow the directions listed above.
From Route 1: Take Route 1 to the intersection of Route 18 and take the exit for Route 18 North. Follow the directions listed above.
From Route 287: Take Exit 10 to Easton Avenue (New Brunswick). Proceed on Easton Avenue for approximately 7 miles until it ends at Albany Street (at the New Brunswick train station). Turn left onto Albany Street; go a block and a half to George Street. Turn right at George Street and go four blocks to Livingston Avenue. Turn right onto Livingston Avenue; the Bloustein School will be on your right at the next intersection, the corner of Livingston Avenue and New Street.
CAMPUS BUS: Take the EE to Rockoff Hall. Walk to the corner of George and New Streets and cross the street. INC restaurant will be in front of you. Turn left and walk up New Street. The Bloustein School building will be directly across the street (corner of New and Livingston Aves.). Enter through the front door; the Bloustein School is to the left.
From the front entrance to the Florio Forum: Go left, and then turn right into the lobby for the Florio Forum.
