The Downtown Loop Revitalization Plan aims to transform an underutilized area of Atlantic City into a mixed use neighborhood that encourages an innovative and vibrant atmosphere. The Plan Area (‘The Area”) will have a diverse choice of housing and hospitality opportunities, boosting the population and creating more lively streets. The Area will capture the essence of Atlantic City with busy mixed use corridors and will take advantage of its environmental assets with a green corridor. The Area will evolve from a desert of surface parking lots and vacant expanses to a thriving mixed use neighborhood with restaurants, walkable streets and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Area is characterized by groups of parcels that have been bought by various owners in anticipation of large casino investment. Despite the beach front location, most properties are vacant, in disrepair or underutilized. Most lots are currently used as surface parking lots. There is a sense of isolation, and a perception of an unsafe environment.
The Area has the potential to become a vibrant neighborhood with many housing options, ranging from second homes, sustainable micro-apartments and year-round condominiums and apartments. To complement the residential development, the Area will contain a new innovative center of economic and small-scale entrepreneurial activity, including hostels, hotels and bed and breakfasts. Its prime location on the beach, in addition to one of its boundaries being the Boardwalk is an opportunity for Atlantic City to fill a void between other major areas of commercial development.
