Katharine Nelson PhD ’22 awarded 2022 APPAM PhD Dissertation Award

Katharine (Katie) Nelson, Ph.D. ’22 is the recipient of the 2022 Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) PhD Dissertation Award. Dissertations can be from any discipline but must deal substantively with public policy issues and are nominated by a faculty member from an APPAM institutional member university.

She is currently serving as Director of Research at the Housing Initiative at Penn (HIP). The award will be presented at the annual APPAM conference this week on Thursday, November 17.

Dr. Katharine Nelson

Dr. Nelson conducts research in the areas of housing, community and economic development, racial equity, GIS and spatial analysis, gentrification and education, and real estate markets. Her dissertation, FHA and the Dual Mortgage Delivery System in Philadelphia, covers topics that address urban change, racial inequality, and public policy. Her advisor was Professor Kathe Newman. Earlier this year, Dr. Nelson was the recipient of the Rutgers School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Doctoral Student Award.
