Giant Warehouses are Coming to Jackson

The lack of available construction land around New Jersey ports and along the turnpike, a major north-south freeway, has fueled warehouse growth in the state’s suburban communities, adding Monmouth and Ocean counties, and along nearby connecting highways like Interstate 195. and Route 33, a national highway.

“It’s a desperate search for sites that have some accessibility,” said economist James Hughes, Dean Emeritus of Rutgers University’s Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.

At the same time, Lakewood’s population expansion has fueled a regional need for garage space.
