Johvensky Plaisime

Public Health Undergraduate: Johvensky Plaisime

What Johvensky says:

COVID-19 has not impacted my dream. In fact, it has only encouraged me to go down this route as many people are struggling now more than ever. My hope is this experience is able to provide me with the strength and knowledge necessary to make that dream a reality.

His job:

Since children in elementary school are now unable to go to school, I’ve been sending them short stories to read every day. I am currently working on at-home STEM and arts and crafts activities for both children and their families as a way for the whole family to bond as well as serve as an educational experience for the children.

Many families are struggling with the recent changes and I hope that what I am doing serves as a source of encouragement that even when things may seem rough, there is always a silver lining. I am currently working on a way to make the activity into a live session, in order for it to be more interactive and hands-on. This will give it the feeling that the children are still in a “classroom” setting.

COVID-19 has not impacted my dream. In fact, it has only encouraged me to go down this route as many people are struggling now more than ever.

Career aspirations:

Career-wise, I hope to work for a company/organization that specializes in combating social determinants of health for members of at-risk communities. Whether it be access to healthcare or even increasing health literacy, my hope is to be of some help to those in need.
