Undocumented Workers Contributed $1.2 Billion To Unemployment Funds, Report Says

Undocumented workers have contributed $1.2 billion dollars into federal and state unemployment insurance over the last 10 years. They just don’t benefit from it. That’s according to a new report by New Jersey Policy Perspective.

“Not providing for folks that have lost employment at no fault of their own is going to slow the recovery for everyone,” said Vineeta Kapahi MCRP ’20, a policy analyst for the research group. “The economic viability of local businesses and our state and local economies are very much contingent on everyone being supported during this time and not leaving anyone behind.”
