Graduate Program | Public Policy Joint Degree Program
Dual Degree with Rutgers Law School (MPAP/JD)
The Rutgers Law School in Newark and Camden and the Bloustein School offer a dual Master of Public Affairs and Politics/Juris Doctor (MPAP/JD) degree, designed for students who are interested in law, politics, and public policy.
The three and one-half year program is a saving of 12 credits relative to completing both degrees independently. The MPAP/JD dual degree also accepts students who do not have the five years of policy or politics experience required for admission into the stand-alone MPAP program.Students usually begin the program with the law school curriculum, completing two years in Camden or Newark studying law, followed by a year in New Brunswick studying public policy, before returning for a final semester of law school.
Rutgers Law School accepts 12 credits from the Master of Public Affairs and Politics program toward the J.D. degree. The Bloustein School accepts up to six credits from elsewhere at Rutgers University or (by special arrangement) from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, towards the 30 credits required for the MPAP degree. A law school course may not be used to meet both the MPP and JD requirements.
To be considered for the dual degree program, students must apply and be accepted separately into the Bloustein School’s Master of Public Affairs and Politics Program in New Brunswick and Rutgers Law School in Camden or Newark.
