Alumnus Justin Hollander, FAICP PhD ’07 named co-editor of Journal of Planning Education

The American Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) recently announced Justin Hollander, Ph.D.’ 07, and Ivy Hu as the incoming editors of the Journal of Planning Education and Research (JPER), effective July 1, 2024.

Both of the newly selected editors have extensive experience in publishing, editing, and other services. In addition to being a professor at Tufts, Hollander is currently a member of five editorial boards, including JPER.  Hu is a professor at the University of Florida, chair of the ACSP Committee on the Academy and has extensive experience in editing and academic events. Both are former ACSP Governing Board members.

They will work with the outgoing editorial team, headed by Shannon Van Zandt at Texas A&M University, as part of a transition process beginning January 2024.  

Dr. Hollander is a Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University. He has worked in land use and environmental planning at the local, regional, and federal levels, most recently for the Public Buildings Service of the U.S. General Services Administration as a Presidential Management Fellow. His research examines how cities and regions manage physical change during periods of growth and decline and the cognitive, health, and social dimensions of community well-being. At the Bloustein School, his disseration was “Unwanted, Polluted, and Dangerous: America’s Worst Abandoned Properties and What Can be Done About Them.” His faculty disseration chair was Michael Greenberg.
