NAIOP New Jersey to host annual meeting, commercial real estate outlook on Jan. 25

January 16, 2024

NAIOP New Jersey will welcome hundreds of industry leaders next week for its first event of the year, where experts will highlight economic trends and their impact on commercial real estate.

Slated for Jan. 25 at the Hilton Short Hills, the chapter’s Annual Meeting and Commercial Real Estate Outlook will also include the election of its 2024 officers and trustees. That will kick off a program that includes a presentation by Richard Barkham, global chief economist, head of global research and head of Americas research with CBRE, who will address the current global, regional and local economic climate.

Following his remarks, a panel of industry experts will delve into the connection between local economic trends and the state’s commercial real estate sector, covering topics such as key factors that are influencing the market, how broader economic trends are impacting the industry and changing consumer behaviors that are influencing development and investment. Confirmed panelists include:

  • Morris A. Davis, Paul V. Profeta chair of real estate and professor of finance and economics and academic director at the Rutgers Center for Real Estate
  • Will Irving, associate professor of practice with Rutgers University’s Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
  • Jeffrey G. Otteau, managing partner and chief economist of Otteau Group Inc., and managing broker with Hudson Atlantic Realty Advisors Inc.

“CRE markets continue to face more uncertainty than clarity as we turn the corner into 2024,” Otteau said. “While the Fed’s signals for lowering interest rates will likely bring a rebound in deal flow, unfinished business in taming inflation could trigger another wave or rising interest rates down the road. This program will provide essential forward guidance for CRE investment in the coming year as we continue to navigate through uncharted waters.”

The event at 41 John F. Kennedy Parkway in the Short Hills section of Millburn will begin at 5 p.m. with networking and cocktails, followed by dinner and the program.
