Yousaf Shahid
Master of Public Policy/Master of Public Informatics, Class of 2025
With a background in mechanical engineering and five years of experience in Pakistan’s energy sector, Yousaf witnessed the critical challenges of energy security, outdated technologies, and inconsistent policies. His passion for addressing these issues led him to pivot towards data-driven policymaking through the MPI program. Yousaf is one of the key leaders and a board member of the PISG (Public Informatics Student Group at RU).
Yousaf’s experience in the program has been pivotal in preparing him for a career in energy policy and analytics. One of his standout courses was Global Data Analytics, where he gained a deeper understanding of how data can shape sustainable energy policies. His research at the Bloustein School’s Center for Urban Policy Research further enriched his knowledge of energy efficiency, beneficial electrification, and integration of sustainable renewable energy, providing hands-on experience with innovative strategies that could reduce carbon footprints and effectively transform urban environments into models of sustainability. This work involved collaborating with industry experts, policymakers, and the NJ Board of Public Utilities to maximize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impacts. He mentions, “These experiences have prepared me for a career in energy policy and energy analytics, where I plan to integrate technical expertise with strategic policymaking to support informed decisions in the energy sector.”
Looking ahead, Yousaf aims to leverage his technical expertise and strategic policymaking skills to drive data-driven solutions in energy efficiency and renewable energy. His goal is to support sustainable energy practices that promote both environmental sustainability and economic viability.
Kudos to Yousaf for his dedication to making a tangible impact in the energy sector and for his excellence in public informatics!
