Created Equal? Citizenship Equality and America’s 250th
In honor of Constitution Day, the Eagleton Institute of Politics will welcome renowned constitutional scholar Akhil Reed Amar for a timely discussion exploring the Constitution’s enduring influence on American democracy. The Bloustein School is proud to serve as a co-sponsor.
Moderated by CNN Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig, the conversation will examine the evolution of constitutional principles from the Declaration of Independence’s promise that “all men are created equal” to the Fourteenth Amendment’s guarantee of birthright citizenship and today’s debates over equality, citizenship, and constitutional rights.
Following the lecture, Professor Akhil Reed Amar will sign copies of his books, Born Equal: Remaking America’s Constitution, 1840–1920 and The Words That Made Us: America’s Constitutional Conversation, 1760–1840. With registration, attendees may choose one complimentary copy of either book, while supplies last.
