“The end of the calendar year is usually a tale of two experiences,” said Carl Van Horn, director of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University.

Van Horn said the end-of-year trend can often depend on the type of industry that people work in. He said that in sectors, such as retail, entertainment, and law enforcement, it can be all hands on-deck.
