Symposium on “New Jersey Gold Coast”—19-mile Hudson Waterfront area—to be held October 25

blgrc-goldcoast-131025-smallThe Bloustein Local Government Research Center, Rutgers University, in conjunction with the American Planning Association New Jersey Chapter, will host a half-day long symposium on Friday, October 25, “The New Jersey Gold Coast: How We Got Here and Where We are Going,” about the history of the area and its future. The event will held at the Special Events Forum of the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy on the campus of Rutgers University, 33 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ.

Since the 1990s, the 19-mile Hudson Waterfront area has experienced intensive development, consisting largely of high-density residential buildings, office towers, and retail centers. The event will be moderated by Bloustein Local Director and University Professor Raphael J. Caprio, and Senior Research Fellow Marc Pfeiffer, and include a macroeconomic overview of  the region. Confirmed presentations include discussions by Robert Cotter, PP, FAICP, Director Jersey City Division of City Planning, Gregory Franz, Borough Administrator, Borough of Edgewater, Richard Turner, Mayor, Township of Weehawken, all waterfront municipalities that have experienced significant impact from Gold Coast development. Arthur E. Imperatore, Jr., President, New York Waterway, will provide a developer’s view of the region’s future.
