The Bloustein School’s Bachelor of Science in Health Administration recently achieved the status as a Full Certified Undergraduate Program with the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).
AUPHA certification is the national standard of quality for undergraduate health administration education. Programs earn it only after a rigorous self-study and an external peer review confirming the curriculum meets professional benchmarks in healthcare finance, ethics, policy, and strategic leadership.
“Certification indicates our health administration undergraduate degree program has met the strict national quality standards set by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration,” said Céu Cirne-Neves, MPA, FACHE, Bloustein School Assistant Teaching Professor and Program Coordinator of the B.S. in Health Administration.
“The certification gives Bloustein students recognized credentials that strengthen their standing with employers, as well as access to AUPHA’s national network of resources and career connections,” she continued.
“This is a major milestone for our undergraduate program and an important recognition of the quality, rigor, and continued growth of health administration at Rutgers,” said Soumitra Bhuyan, Associate Professor and Executive Director of Health Administration programs at Bloustein. “I would like to offer thanks as well as congratulations to our faculty, staff, and the students for their support and participation throughout this process.”
The Bloustein School’s health administration major and minor grew out of increased student demand for competency-based courses in hospital and health system administration, physician practice management, long-term care administration, health education, healthcare operations and performance improvement, and financial applications. The undergraduate health administration program launched in 2015 with a strong focus on the ethical, economic, and operational dimensions of healthcare. With approximately 300 undergraduates currently enrolled in health administration courses, the major and minor prepare students for careers in hospital administration, health policy, and healthcare performance improvement.
The B.S. in Health Administration is certified until 2030, at which time it will undergo the recertification process.
