Vivek Dsouza, MCRP ’25
The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) / Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) September 11th Memorial Program for Regional Transportation Planning selection committee has selected Vivek Dsouza, MCRP ’25 for participation in a one-year research fellowship.
The goal of the fellowship opportunity is to educate and motivate people interested in transportation technology and planning, and to encourage innovations in planning activities throughout the NYMTC region. The program fosters the academic and professional development of students by providing them with opportunities to participate in innovative research or planning projects. As part of his fellowship, Vivek will be working on the research topic “Exploring the Economic Impacts of Complete Streets Improvements” under the guidance of Colleen Smith Lemmon and Ellwood Hanrahan at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). Commencing October 2024 through September 2025, the objective of this research project is to develop a process that transportation agencies and metropolitan planning organizations could utilize to measure the economic benefits of Complete Streets improvements along a roadway or in a downtown area.
Vivek is a second-year city and regional planning student studying the intersection between built environments and health, with a focus on transportation, equity, and planning. During the summer of 2024, he interned at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), where he reviewed Vision Zero plans, mapped crash profiles, analyzed equity considerations, and conducted crash analysis on one of Philadelphia’s high-injury network corridors. He has a background in economics, political science, and public health, and is from Mumbai, India.
