Bloustein School recognizes completion of studies for 15 MCRS, MPAP students of KDI Scholars program

In January 2001, the Bloustein School and the School’s Urban Planning and Policy Development Masters Program entered into a partnership to accept students from the School of Public Policy and Management of the Korea Development Institute (KDI) into the Urban Planning and Policy Development graduate program. In 2016, a new partnership enabled applicants to be accepted into the Bloustein School’s Master of Public Affairs and Politics (MPAP) program.

On December 11, the Bloustein School recognized the 13 MCRS graduates and twoMPAP students completing their studies at the Bloustein School in 2019 in a special graduation ceremony.

Rutgers and the Bloustein School are very well known in Korean academic and planning circles, and offer KDI students an excellent opportunity to broaden their knowledge and practical skills through the combination of coursework and professional internships.

MCRS Graduates

Kang, Byungsoo graduated from Kyungsung University with a Bachelor in International Trade and Commerce. He received the “CEO’s Commendation Awards” in 2009, 2015 and 2016, from Korea Land & Housing Corporation, where he has been working for 15 years. His current research interest is the contribution of public housing services to residential satisfaction.

Kim, Jeehoon earned a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from Yeungnam University and a Masters of Business Administration at Korea Expressway Corporation’s In-house MBA program. He was awarded a citation from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport in 2016 and a citation from the President of Korea Express Corporation in 2008 and 2012. He is a senior manager and has been employed by Korea Expressway Corporation for 15 years.

Kim, Seunghyun graduated from Hanyang University with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration at Korea Expressway Corporation’s in-house MBA program. He was awarded a citation from the president of Korea Express Corporation in 2009. Seunghyun has been working for more than 10 years and he is currently a senior manager of the Overseas Project Department at Main office.

Koo, Jeongyong received a Bachelor Degree in Sociology from Korea University. He received the CEO’s Award from Korea Land & Housing Corporation in 2012. He has been employed in Korea & Land Housing Corporation since 2003. His current research interest is on how to improve transition management from new employees into regular workers.

Lee, Dongchang earned a Bachelor in Economics from SungKyunKwan University and a Masters of Public Policy from Seoul National University. He comes with 10 years of experience in a central and local government, primarily in city-related affairs. Dongchang received an award of a distinguished new employee in 2009 and distinguished official in 2011 from Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. He is interested in Urban planning with a goal to help develop Sejong city as a model city in the Republic of Korea.

Lee, Yonghyun graduated with a Bachelor of Transportation Engineer from Keimyung University. He is awarded an Institution citation for Renewable Energy from the Minister of Trade Industry and Energy in 2017 and also awarded a citation from the president of Korea Expressway Corporation in 2007 and 2014. He is currently Senior Manager in Korea express Corporation.

Moon, Sungpil received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Yonsei University. He was awarded a citation from the president of Korea Expressway Corporation in 2010,2014 and 2017. He has been employed since 2007 and he is currently a senior manager in Korea Expressway Corporation.

Park, JungIl earned a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from Yonsei University. He was awarded a certificate of the Ministry of Korea National Defense. Also, He acquired a professional engineer license in soil mechanics and foundation engineering in 2011. He has been employed by Korea Land and Housing Corporation since 2003. He is currently a manager in the Sejong Special Project division. His current research interest is urban planning and urban engineering.

Seok, Jiyoun received a Bachelor from Ewha University with double majors in Journalism and Advertising & public relations. She also graduated from Korea University with Masters of Media & Communications along with a thesis titled “Big data analysis of housing issue in Korea”, which helps the company to set up the new management strategy called “Big Data- Driven Smart LH”. She works as a Manager in the housing sales department in Korea Land & Housing Corporation.

Sinn, Hyungwook graduated from Seoul University with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. He has been a manager in Korea Land and Housing Corporation for 16 years He is involved in various new town projects and the construction process. Hyungwook has a vision for transforming the old neighborhood in developing countries

Suh, Hyunkyo earned a Bachelor from Sogang University and a Master of Business Administration from Seoul National University. He has been employed in Korea Express Corporation since 2003 and works as Senior Manager. He was awarded a Citation from the President of current employer. As a Senior Manager, he played a key role to establish and evaluate the business standards related to the service facilities.

Yi, Sehyung graduated from Dona-A University with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. He has been employed since 2002 in Korea Land and Housing Corporation. He was awarded free economic zone development in 2017 and 2 million housing development contribution award. He has a vision for sustainable urban development as a city planning expert.

Yoon, Dukhyun received a Bachelor in architecture engineering from Chungnam University. He was awarded the Minister’s Award from the Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport in 2012. He has been a manager in Korea Land & Housing Corporation since 2006. His research interest is the survival of Korean Housing market facing the demographic era.

MPAP Graduates

Kwon, Hyena graduated from Ewha Woman’s University with a Bachelor of Chinese Language and Literature in 2006. She received a Prime Minister Award in 2013. She currently works in the Ministry of Health and Welfare since 2007. Ms. Kwon contributed to the implementation of welfare and health policy in the Republic of Korea. She is currently a Senior Deputy Director in the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Won, Kiyoun earned a Bachelor’s in Korean Language and Literature from Chungnam National University. He was awarded National Service Fellowship from the government of Republic Korea in 2018. He not only increased revenue in Daejeon East District but also promoted creative policy measures for Daejeon City. He has worked for the Dajeon Metropolitan City government since 2003. He is currently a team manager of the Station development team in the division of advanced transportation.

The KDI School of Public Policy and Management was established in 1998 to meet the educational needs of government and business leaders in a globalizing world economy. The school is a collaborative effort between the Korea Development Institute, founded 30 years ago as Korea’s premier policy research organization, and the Korean government. Classes at the KDI School, which attracts students from Asia and around the world, are conducted in English. Approximately 40 percent of the student body is comprised of international students. As part of their two-year master’s course, KDI School students are required to spend one year at an overseas university.
