Internships, Fellowships, and Applied Field Experiences (for MPP students only) provide you with the opportunity to gain professional-level experience while testing out career options and building skills and experience to be marketable for future employment. They enable you to build your resume, your professional network, and are often an entryway into full-time employment. Additionally, Internships may offer compensation and the chance to earn credit through internship courses offered at Bloustein. Sometimes internships are unpaid, but they are still great resume and skill builders that should be considered.

While doing so, many of these women challenged the social and cultural norms or constraints in our society from the perspectives of gender, race and motherhood. Their leadership stories demonstrate a broad definition of population health and their work influenced social change in diverse settings and disciplines including: environmental justice, research, advocacy, policy, clinical care, mentorship, healthcare delivery systems and governance. A commodity that is not equally accessible and that has a value assigned to it based on markets that serve the few, not the many. What does it take to decommodify land? Is it possible? Can land and power be redistributed for collective benefit? This talk will take us on a journey through history to examine land ownership in the United States and the reverberating impacts experienced in the 21st century. Adriana Abizadeh '12 is a Senior Policy Fellow at the Bloustein School and is the executive director of the Kensington Corridor Trust (KCT) in Philadelphia, whose mission is to utilize collective ownership to direct investments on the corridor that preserve culture and affordability while building neighborhood power and wealth in Kensington. She is also the President of Catalyst Consulting Group (CCG), a boutique consulting firm that is moving projects forward for nonprofits and other stakeholders. The firm specializes in strategic planning, leadership development, and board governance. Adriana’s expertise is in supporting grassroots organizations with growth strategies and the development of welcoming and inclusive work cultures. She has a BA in political science from Rutgers with a minor in Security Intelligence and Counter Terrorism. She also has an MS in Public Policy from Drexel. Free and open to the public. In this talk, Anneliese Singh will apply sociocultural and critical race theories to mentoring, guiding participants through a deconstruction of the ideas and beliefs that shape our understandings of mentoring and moving toward an analysis of the structural forces that inform mentoring relationships, all in service of cultivating a more just and power-conscious mentoring practice. Participants will learn power-conscious mentoring strategies that can be implemented across disciplinary areas to support graduate and undergraduate students’ personal, professional, and academic thriving.
