Van Horn Appointed to New Jersey Jobs and Economic Opportunity Council

February 27, 2018

Carl Van Horn, Distinguished Professor and director of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development, has been appointed to the newly created New Jersey Jobs and Economic Opportunity Council. Established by Governor Phil Murphy, the council will provide Governor Murphy with economic advice and recommendations for stimulating job growth and workforce development in New Jersey.

“We must make sure that state residents have access to jobs and opportunities that will allow them to contribute to our economy,” Governor Murphy said after signing the Executive Order that established the new council. “In order to get the economy right, we need to make informed decisions about the path forward in New Jersey. I look forward to hearing the council’s recommendations and beginning the process of building a stronger and fairer economy in our state.”

The council will formulate recommendations related to national and state economic trends, sources for infrastructure funding, possible government action to expand employment opportunities, priorities for federal and state-funded programs, and the development of software to improve services for job seekers.

“I am honored to serve on the council and look forward to working with the other council members and Governor Murphy on developing strategies to improve New Jersey’s economy and job market,” said Dr. Van Horn.

The council’s members include Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver, chief of staff Pete Cammarano, chief counsel Matt Platkin, and several Cabinet members.
