The enhancement would increase the natural gas supply of the New York City-based National Grid utilities company, allowing them and their customers to save money by switching from oil.
For New Jersey, the enhancement would generate 3,186 jobs during the one-year construction period, resulting in an $327.2 million increase in economic activity, according Rutgers University’s Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. About two dozen maintenance and operator jobs also would need to be filled, according to the Washington, D.C.-based Teamsters union.
