Together North Jersey to host public workshop to gather information on communities along inner M&E corridor

March 27, 2013

Together North Jersey’s first public workshop for the “Inner M&E Strategic Corridor Plan” will be held on Tuesday, April 2, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Council Chambers of East Orange City Hall, 44 City Hall Plaza, East Orange, NJ. The workshop will present an opportunity for Essex County residents and members of the public to weigh in on the future of the transit corridor that stretches from the Newark Broad Street Station Area through the Oranges to the Highland Avenue Station Area.

The Inner M&E Strategic Corridor Plan is a joint effort between Together North Jersey, Essex County, the municipalities of Newark, East Orange, Orange, and West Orange, and the organizations of LISC, La Casa de Don Pedro, HANDS, and the Joseph C. Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies at Rutgers University-Newark.  The objective of this effort is to discover how the communities can best take advantage of the transportation resources to connect to jobs and other opportunities, identify the critical links that need to be strengthened within these communities, identify the special places that make each community unique, and identify the common issues and challenges that these communities face.

Workshop topics will include developing a unified vision for the future of the corridor; considering how abandoned properties can be reinvented; discussing ways to improve how people move along the corridor and how it connects them; and how to ensure a strong economic future for the corridor.

Together North Jersey is a collaborative partnership dedicated to strengthening the region’s economy and improving access to good jobs, quality schools, safe and stable neighborhoods, a healthy environment, fresh food, and civic and cultural resources. The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policyat Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is the administrative and fiscal agent for Together North Jersey.
