Each spring, Rutgers students participate in a variety of Alternative Spring Break Trips – from New Orleans to the Dominican Republic, engaging their hearts and minds in service-learning. For the fifth consecutive year, RHS-H.O.P.E.(Rutgers Health Services -Health Outreach, Promotion and Education) in collaboration with the Bloustein School coordinated the annual Alternative Spring Break trip to Nicaragua to explore public health systems. Bloustein School instructor Tito Gezmu and part-time lecturers Francesca Maresca and Liz Amaya-Fernandez coordinated this year’s trip, taking 17 students to learn and grow in this transformative experience.
