Rutgers Day 2013: Bloustein teaching kids to “Be Prepared!”

April 22, 2013

ruday_sua_274This Saturday, April 27 is Rutgers Day and we encourage you to bring your families to the Bloustein School tent along the Voorhees Mall on College Ave. Rutgers Day runs from 10am-4pm and there are many fun activities on the College Ave. campus including visiting the “R” Garden, poetry readings for kids, and an “interactive parade” from 11-11:30 a.m. You can see some highlights from Rutgers Day 2012 here:  http://rutgersday.rutgers.edu/

Hurricane Sandy has taught us that disasters can strike at any moment — do your kids know what to do in an emergency? The Bloustein School will help them learn to BE PREPARED! This year, our undergraduate interns have developed a game that will help kids choose items to put into their own personal emergency preparedness kit; encourage kids and adults to write down their own ideas as to policies that could be implemented to help towns in emergency situations; and will help participants to plan the layout of a waterfront town.

We will be distributing games to children about what they should do if and when an emergency strikes, including helping them begin writing down a Family Emergency Plan. Helpful information for parents will also be provided, courtesy of FEMA.

All children who come by will be presented with their very own “I AM PREPARED!” readiness crown that they can color, and the first 200 kids who participate in the preparedness game and fill out their mini family plan will be given a small first aid kit.

You can end your day by heading over to watch the Scarlet-White Spring Football Game at High Point Solutions Stadium at 3pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!!!
