The Bloustein School’s Center for Transportation Safety, Security and Risk (CTSSR) has released a new security awareness training video for transit bus operators.
Safe and Secure: Security Awareness for Bus Operators is a 15-minute video designed to help transit bus operators develop observation and response skills needed to prevent and mitigate security-related incidents on and around buses. The training objectives are to teach operators the importance of security awareness and about the types of security threats; to demonstrate awareness skills for unusual items and unusual behaviors; and to stress the use of effective responses to security situations, emphasizing reporting anything suspicious to bus dispatch or control centers.
The fast-paced video features testimonials and demonstrations from bus operators of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), the major supporter of the project.
The Center for Transportation Safety, Security and Risk serves as a National Transportation Security Center of Excellence (NTSCOE) for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. CTSSR develops state-of-the-art responses to the transportation security and risk analysis challenges of the 21st century. The Center’s research projects apply decision tools, GIS mapping and risk modeling to real-world transportation contexts in order to better assess and manage risks and improve resiliency related to security and all-hazards incidents. CTSSR creates relevant and innovative security training products for the transportation industry. A strong foundation of research grounds this training in the best security practices and latest delivery technologies available.
