Julia Maxwell joins Rutgers Libraries as Social Sciences Librarian

Julia Maxwell has joined the Rutgers University Libraries as Social Sciences Librarian and will serve as liaison to the Bloustein School and the School of Social Work.

Her office will be at the Archibald S. Alexander Library on College Avenue in New Brunswick. She can be reached at julia.maxwell <at> rutgers.edu or 848-932-6077.

After earning a Bachelor’s in Musical Theater from Point Park University and several years working in theater, Julia transitioned to the world of libraries. She earned an MS in Information and also an MA in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan, and also has certificates in Learner Experience Design and Transformative Teaching Through Transitions.

While at Michigan, Julia worked on several projects, including an NSF-funded project on learning from open textbooks in mathematics and the design of online learning initiatives and assessments.  She served as lead data analyst for the Library Assessment for Student Learning Lab.

Julia comes to us from San Francisco State University, where she currently serves as First Year Experience Librarian.  At SFSU, she has planned, designed, taught, and assessed numerous learning and outreach sessions. Her work with online learning experiences has emphasized a collaborative and inclusive approach.  She has published on information literacy in Library and Information Science Research and on open educational resources, source evaluation, and mentorship with ACRL.
