Livingston Mall’s days are numbered, many experts and local officials say, and a hint at the site’s future may lie in the kind of mixed-use development being pursued at other malls across New Jersey…
“The town — if it’s a redevelopment area — is in the driver’s seat,” said James Hughes, a professor of urban planning and policy development at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. “They could acquire the land and totally control it.”
Developers proposed 426 residential apartment units at the Bergen Town Center mall on Route 4 in Paramus.
There would also be 5,050 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, and 1,572 overall parking spaces, which includes lots from other areas on the mall property, and two parking garages.
