New Hudson tunnel, Portal bridge takes big step forward

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced Thursday that both projects are starting the first phase of Federal Transit Administration “New Starts” funding program.

The announcement keeps a promise made by Obama administration officials to move and fund the Gateway Project, which includes the tunnels and Portal Bridge, said Martin Robins, Voorhees Transportation Institute at Rutgers director emeritus.
